My guess is the most positive thing for me — and it’s probably true — was that my awareness of the struggles of these communities makes it pretty easy for us all to identify: we feel guilty when we don’t know how to speak freely about our experiences somehow or other, and feeling sad when we do. (That’s pretty much true for everyone, and it works out perfectly for me.) The show didn’t really set out to be about or give all the LGBTQs straight answers: it touched on my main path to emancipation, as the “nonbinary identity” that says we didn’t care whether we lived one way, or other.
